Falcon History
|
| The XA Falcon |
| The XA was an all new Falcon launched in 1972. It was the
first Falcon to be totally designed by Australians, as production
of the Falcon in the US had ceased. It also marked the return
of the Falcon hardtop, and the streamed shaped of the Falcon
made this coupe the sexiest Australian car ever. Sadly though,
the GTHO was to be no more, thanks to party-pooping politians,
who merely saw it as a road-rage weapon. The XA was the biggest
Falcon yet, with the boldest styling. The XA GT is the most
unique of all the GT's as the guards and bonnett is like no
other,we predict that in years to come a good XA will be very
rare as some XA's were made with a sealing compound that turned
to acid with moisture. not alone Thankfully they used this compound
on Datsuns 200B's. Datsun 200B's boots have a big corrison issue.
In 1973 Ford replaced the phase 4 GTHO Falcon [4 vehicles] that
had been the victem of political pressure and media claims of
160mph supercars with the XA GT RPO 083, 131 sedans and 129
coupes were constructed. These vehicles entered the market place
with no fuss or advertised claims, only people in the know knew
of its existence. Not so now, a RPO 083 is the next prize to
a collecter to park beside that phase 3 XY GTHO Falcon. |

| The XB Falcon |
| The XB Falcon, introduced in 1973 yeilded the last of the
GTs untill 1992. The sleek shape was still there, in a beefier
face-lift. Gone were the wrap-around indicators and nose resembled
more of the mustang. In the base model Falcon Front disc brakes
were now standard and power-brakes were available on some models.
Inflation at that time caused the basic price to rise $216.
GT Falcons now were fitted with 4 wheel disc brakes, the TV
adds featured a sharp bright yellow GTcoupe being driven across
a creek crossing and burnt orange 4 door GT at the race track
to a tune of 'a great austrailian road car!'. To honour fords
race car driver John Goss. A limited edition John Goss special
coupe was released. This vehicle was painted the colour of the
stripes first, being met green or blue, before the vehicle was
then resprayed white. |

| The XC Falcon |
The last of the big Falcons was the XC introduced halfway
through 1976. The Futura was discontinued but only to reappear
years later, but the legendary GT would be discontinued until
1992. Replacing it was the GXL Fairmont. In 1978 Ford released
the Falcon Cobra, which was a limited run model, early 1978
saw the construction of 13 promotional Cobra's \ unnumbered.
Later in July 1978 Ford constructed 400 numbered examples. The
XC gained newly design front panels, and on 4 door sedans new
rear doors, taillights and bumper bars. What prettier then a
Cobra coupe? - 2 Cobra coupes.

| The XR Falcon |
| An all new Falcon was launched in 1966. It was the XR, and
was a far cry from its predecessors. Again, it earned Falcon
the Wheels Car Of The Year award. The XR was both larger and
more upmarket and had the option of a new V8 across the range.
Ford dubbed it as the "Mustang Bred Falcon", but infact
the Mustang was built on the basis of this Falcon. It's styling
was ultra-modern with a long nose and short tail. In 1967, Ford
introduced the fabulous Falcon GT, based on the Fairmont, it
carried a 'High Performance' pursuit V8, but was only available
in one colour, GT gold. This vehicle created huge interest,
$3,890.00 bought you a 4 door sports car that no other manufacturer
retailed. |
| |
| The XT Falcon |
| Next in line was the XT Falcon in 1968. On the outside in
it looked just like a mere facelift, but revamped Falcon range
consisted of two new sixes (3.1 Litres and 3.6 Litres), and
a bigger 5 Litre V8. There were mechanical upgrades to the gearbox,
brakes and larger tyres at no extra cost. The GT became a standard
part of the Falcon range and could be optioned with more colours
and received attractive driving lights. The first major upgrade
to the XT series Falcon came in 1969, with the launch of the
XW. |
