Falcon History

The XR Falcon

An all new Falcon was launched in 1966. It was the XR, and was a far cry from its predecessors. Again, it earned Falcon the Wheels Car Of The Year award. The XR was both larger and more upmarket and had the option of a new V8 across the range. Ford dubbed it as the "Mustang Bred Falcon", but infact the Mustang was built on the basis of this Falcon. It's styling was ultra-modern with a long nose and short tail. In 1967, Ford introduced the fabulous Falcon GT, based on the Fairmont, it carried a 'High Performance' pursuit V8, but was only available in one colour, GT gold. This vehicle created huge interest, $3,890.00 bought you a 4 door sports car that no other manufacturer retailed.
